New to Swim Team Info
Welcome to the Sharks!
Whitney and Nissa are the swim team coordinators and are happy to answer any questions you may have about swimming.
Swim Meets
Declaring your swimmer: In the week before every meet, you are asked to declare your swimmer and let us know if they are or are not swimming. Reminders will be sent for each meet.
Heat Sheets: The night before or the morning of, you will get a notification that the heat sheet is available. This lets you know the events, heats and lane your swimmer will be in for that meet. This changes with every meet. If you want a hard copy, print and bring it for yourself.
Arrival/Warm ups: We will designate the arrival time for each meet. Typically it is 4 p.m. Parking is limited for most of the places we swim so be prepared to walk. You must SIGN IN at every meet. Please do this as soon as you arrive so we are not hunting for swimmers or having to make last minute changes to the heat sheet. Warm ups for away meets typically start between 4:45 and 5 p.m.
Meet and Greet
We host a Meet and Greet at the start of every summer. This afternoon is an opportunity for you and your swimmer to meet our coaches. If you are considering swim team, you need to come to this event!!! If you are registered by April 1, you get your team shirt and cap on this day.
"Try Outs"
If your child is new to swim team, we do ask for new swimmers to swim one lap of the pool for our coaches. We want to ensure that your swimmer can safely make it across the pool. For 6 and under, they can choose any method necessary, but we want them to be able to propel themselves across the pool without assistance.
Bottom line: Safety is our number one concern. If our coaches don't feel that your child is not safe in the water, we will ask you to wait until next season to join the team. We are not looking for speed!!!
Practices
6 and under practice has coaches in the water to help with technique in learning freestyle and backstroke. We encourage your to bring your swimmer to as many practices as possible, however we recognize that 5 days a week is a lot of practice for a little shark.
Swim Meets
We strongly encourage ALL swimmers to participate in the Intersquad swim meet on Saturday, June 3. This allows you and your swimmer to get the idea of how a swim meet runs, as well as getting times in events, without the pressure of competing against another team. We do encourage swimmers to participate in meets, however that is completely up to your family. We do ask that you declare your swimmer for each meet in Swimtopia. The week before each meet, we will send reminders to declare your swimmer. It is very helpful if you let us know for each meet if they are swimming!!!
Gear
We do not require a team suit. We ask that you get a navy blue racing suit. There are inexpensive ones on Amazon that work fine. We ask swimmers to wear their Sherwood Caps, which are part of the registration fee. Swimmers wear whatever googles they prefer. No other gear is needed.
